Caitlyn's Week 1

Up Caitlyn's Week 1 First Bath

This picture was taken when I was only a few hours old. The first visitors who came to the hospital were Auntie Christine, Nai-Nai (Granma Michelle) and my cousin Emily.

Later that day, Grandpa and Grandma Vinger came, as well as Great Grandpa Vinger, Uncle John, cousin Alex and Mee-Ma (Grandma Miriam) . Mom said this
is one of her favorite pictures, so she used it for my birth announcement.
Auntie Laura and Auntie Heather came the next day. When Auntie Laura held me in her arms, I had my eyes closed the entire time. But my eyes were wide opened for Auntie Heather.  I even sucked on her finger.
Back then, my eyes were hazel green.

I was in the hospital for 4 days. The doctors wanted us to stay for one more day but we were anxious to get home. It was almost

impossible to get much rest at the hospital. Too many doctors and nurses coming in and out. I think we had a total of 12 nurses during our stay. We did have a student nurse that was very nice. Her name is Katie and she lives in Champlin. I hope she will baby sit for us someday.

The reason we were supposed to stay longer was because I had lost 10% of my weight by Day 4, so the doctor wanted to make sure I was seen by a physician the next day. Mom made me an appointment to see Dr. Smelzer at PIP in Brooklyn Park, so the hospital doctors would discharge us.

This is a picture of me in my "Going Home Outfit" with "Chop-chop", my sleeping buddy. The outfit was a little too big for me at
the time, the hat kept falling over and covered my eyes. It was really annoying!

Look at me all bundled up "outside" of mom's belly!! It was hard to believe I was "inside" her belly just a few days earlier. Mom said this was her first time in a wheel chair (another thing to cross off her "Things To Do Before She Turns 40" list). The weather was cold and wet the day they brought me home. I didn't like my first car ride at all. I cried quite a bit Dad had to stop twice between the hospital and home so they could take me out of the car seat so I would stop wailing. We also stopped by the SA station in Champlin so I can be fed. Back then it took 2 people to feed me because I had to eat using a dropper while sucking on someone's finger (I didn't learn how to suck until Day 6).
Life was much better after we got home. Mom's milk came on Day 5, I learned how to suck and latch on on Day 6 and started gaining weight fast. When the home care nurse came to see me on Day 7, I was back up to 9 Ib 4 ozs.
